Care robots are robots designed to be used in care settings, for example with elderly people, those with disabilities or health needs. One of the most well known examples is the seal-like robot Paro, which acts as a form of automated pet. However, the greatest needs are often more practical, such as carrying heavy objects, and so enabling independent living. A challenge fot the future will be for more intimate tasks, such as changing soiled bed linen.
